News & Activities

Singapore, 9th November 2017 - On November 8th, the "Future Energy Asia Exhibition & Conference" Executive Committee convened at the Peninsula Hotel Bangkok to finalise Future Energy Asia's key conference themes. At the meeting, Dr Twarath Sutabutr; Director General; Energy Policy and Planning Office; Ministry of Energy, Thailand presented his views on "Thailand's Integrated Energy Blueprint" and Thailand as a preferred destination for hosting such an event.

Future Energy Asia's Executive Committee Meeting was well attended by more than 35 energy professionals from the region representing national and international oil companies, utility companies, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies and technology companies active in the energy industry. Over several hours of interactive feedback Future Energy Asia's conference programme was refined by peer review. Key themes that emerged from the discussion include; regional energy policies and promoting collaboration; next generation US LNG and how this will impact Asian markets; and how to balance the use of fossil fuels with renewables to meet Asia's energy needs amongst other topics. The session was co-chaired by Nick Milne; Senior Vice President, Offshore Oil & Gas and LNG Finance; Macquarie Bank and Paul Sullivan; Project Advisor to CEO; Steelhead LNG.

During the discussion Dr Twarath noted, "2016 natural gas consumption in Thailand was 5,015 mmscfc, of this demand 75% was met by domestic gas production and the remainder by import via piped gas and LNG. However, with no new significant discoveries in the Gulf of Thailand, this is likely our peak domestic production. Therefore, to ensure our country's energy security, we will look to import additional LNG, with the market in Thailand set to grow from around 5 MPTA to around 35-40 MPTA by 2040, meaning over 70% of Thailand's gas requirements will be met by LNG by that time."

Across the region, IEA forecasts that hydrocarbons demand is set to rise by 78% in 2040, of this natural gas demand will rise by 64% and oil will rise by 44%. Along with a rapidly rising population and electricity demand predicted to triple by 2040, Asia will need energy investments of $2.5 trillion to meet its objectives.

With this in mind, Future Energy Asia under support of the Thailand Ministry of Energy promises to be the largest energy industry gathering Asia has ever seen. Focusing on oil, gas and renewables, the event is set forth to outline the perfect scenarios of mixed fuels and technologies needed to meet growing energy demand, improve efficiency and support the transition to a lower-carbon economy. Future Energy Asia also features a three-day exhibition, which the perfect platform for companies to showcase their expertise and brands to investors and buyers looking to do business in an ever-changing dynamic Asian energy market specifically focusing on the future energy solutions for the Asian region. Future Energy Asia will be held from 12-14 December 2018 at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Thailand and will welcome the who's who of players from the entire energy value chain. Over 15,000 visitors, 2,000 delegates, 300 speakers and 600 exhibiting companies are expected to be part of this leading event.
